A journey to the Southern Alps offers many possible ascents on the famous peaks surrounding the Tasman Glacier. There are mountaineering routes on Mt. Cook, Mt. Tasman, Mt. Sefton, and many others. Access is usually by ski plane to one of the huts maintained by the National Park. Further south lies Mt. Aspiring and the peaks near Wanaka.
